No Special Paper For Simple Origami

As I learn about origami I was surprised to learn that origami uses special paper.  It's a lighter weight paper that folds easer and flatter and it often has a different shade of color on the back side.  It's designed to resist tears and produce clean, crisp folds.  You can use almost any paper for simple origami because you don't have many folds but when your origami becomes more complex you'll want to pick up a supply of special origami paper.  The standard is a square 7" X 7" sheet but you can get a larger 9" X 9", or sheets with a pattern print or even metallic foil made for origami.  The color difference produces a nice effect when it's folded, showing the different parts of your work.  If you want to see the origami paper, click on the link from yesterdays post below.

Simple Origami

I've always been somewhat fascinated by origami. Knowing that just folding a sheet of paper you can create a crane or rose or even a simple box seems almost magical. Many shapes are complex and can be difficult to fold but anyone can pick up the basic or simple origami in just a short period of time. Origami has been around for a long time and has developed its own language to describe the different folds but don’t worry. It’s a short, easy language using lines and arrows to describe the way you should fold the paper, nothing too complex. You can use a cheat sheet until you know the language. With a small guide and a few pieces of paper you can create your first, simple origami.
You can probably learn to create origami from the internet but rather than searching from website to website to learn the language and folds I would suggest purchasing a book from Amazon or another company. The books are inexpensive and all the information is provided from one source which makes learning more enjoyable and you don’t have to worry about missing something. So check out a book from Amazon and start some simple origami.
